Sunderland entered the Carabao Cup at the third-round stage as a result of their participation in the Europa League, meaning Tuesday’s tie will be their first domestic cup fixture of the 2026/27 campaign.
Hull City, meanwhile, arrive on Wearside after an encouraging opening to life back in the Premier League.
The Tigers have collected seven points from their first three league matches, including an impressive 2-0 home victory over Manchester United and a goalless draw with Aston Villa at the weekend.
Sergej Jakirović’s side have also already negotiated one Carabao Cup tie, overcoming Stoke City on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the second round.
