A message from editor Keith Chapman

For the people of Sunderland and its supporters, SAFC isn’t just any football club; it is a way of life.

It’s a ritual, a community, and Sunderland plays a huge part in the lives of the people who follow it week in, week out.

These are the greatest of times to be a Sunderland supporter. A fully deserved seventh-place finish in the Premier League earned the Lads a first trip to Europe since 1973. Doing the double over Newcastle. Beating Chelsea home and away. Europa League football. A team with spirit, togetherness and quality in abundance. Four years ago, we were in League One.

The Sunderland Stories is committed to providing Sunderland fans with fair, accurate and intelligent coverage of the club we all care so deeply about.

We want to tell the stories that matter, but to look beyond the headlines and provide insight, analysis and reporting that gets to the heart of Sunderland, on and off the pitch.

The Sunderland Stories is another addition to the brilliant Sunderland family, but we want it to be something different. We want it to be something that belongs as much to this brilliant fanbase as it does to those producing it.

This is a project built with the support of Sunderland fans, and it will only succeed with your support. Membership will allow us to dedicate the time, resources and experience needed to make The Sunderland Stories the best it can possibly be.
